Credits are the shared currency for all of Synthesia’s usage-based features. Whether you're using AI Dubbing, Bulk Personalization, or the API, credits help simplify billing, give you more flexibility, and make it easier to track usage across your team.

What are credits?

Credits are a single, shared unit that Synthesia uses to measure usage across all of your usage-based features. With credits, you can:

  • Use a central pool of credits across all eligible features

  • Allocate credits to different workspaces and teams

  • Track usage with consistent units and receive alerts when you're nearing limits

What features use credits?

Credits are used for:

Each feature consumes a different number of credits per minute of use:

  • 1 min of AI Dubbing with lip sync = 80 Credits

  • 1 min of AI Dubbing without lip sync = 40 Credits

  • 1 minute of Bulk Personalization = 180 credits

  • 1 survey response = 350 credits

  • 1 minute of API usage = 160 credits

  • 1 minute of Interactive Avatar API usage = 10 credits

  • 1 Gemini Omni video asset (with or without audio) = 115 credits

  • 1 Veo 3.1 Fast video asset (with audio)= 140 credits

  • 1 Veo 3.1 Fast video asset (without audio)= 115 credits

  • 1 Veo 3.1 video asset (with audio) = 460 credits

  • 1 Veo 3.1 video asset (without audio) = 230 credits

  • 1 FLUX 3 video asset (with/without audio) = 18 credits per second

  • 1 FLUX.2 AI image = 4 credits (free for Enterprise users)

  • 1 Nanobanana 2 AI image = 20 credits

  • 1 OpenAI GPT Image 2 = 20 credits

  • 1 Avatar Builder Avatar = 14 credits

How do org admins manage and allocate credits?

After credits are added to your account, they appear on the Billing page—visible to Org Admins.

To start using credits, Admins must first go to General → Feature Settings and enable the desired products for each workspace and assign the right users. Once enabled, those workspaces will appear in the Billing dashboard, where Admins can:

  • Allocate credits to each workspace

  • Monitor usage with automated alerts at 75%, 90%, and 100% consumption

When credit usage reaches 100%, feature access is paused until additional credits are added.

📌 If you manage multiple workspaces and need to allocate credits at the workspace level, contact your CSM to discuss switching to an organization.

Can I control which features use credits?

Yes. You can enforce more granular usage control by enabling workspace limits.

  • If workspace limits are disabled, enabled products in any workspace will draw credits from the central organization pool.

  • If workspace limits are enabled, you can:

    • Allocate a specific number of credits per workspace

    • Ensure credits are only used for features you've enabled in that workspace

    • Control which teams can access which paid features

This helps if you want to dedicate credits to one feature or limit spending to specific teams.

How do I limit credits per user?

Enterprise admins can set a monthly credit limit per user. The limit is one number that applies to every user on your plan across all of its workspaces. When a user reaches the monthly credit limit your admin set, that user can’t use features that consume credits in any workspace on your plan until the limit resets.

To set a monthly credit limit per user:

  1. Open Workspace settings and select General. If your plan has an organization, open Organization settings and select General instead.

  2. Go to the Usage fairness section.

  3. Turn on Limit credits per user.

  4. Enter a number of credits in Monthly credit limit per user.

Usage fairness

Limit credits per user is off by default, and the limit applies once you enter a number of credits. The monthly credit limit per user resets each month on the day of the month your subscription started. This reset applies only to the per-user limit. It doesn’t add credits to your plan or change your contract’s credit allowance.

✍️ Key details about the monthly credit limit per user:

  • The limit applies to every product that uses credits. You cannot set it for one product.

  • If your plan has an organization, only organization admins can see and change this setting.

  • Each user is counted separately. One user reaching the limit does not block other users.

  • Users who reach the limit can’t currently request more credits in Synthesia, and admins don’t currently receive a notification when a user reaches the limit.

What do users see?

Users will see:

  • The available credits in their workspace (if workspace limits are enabled)

  • The credits consumed for each action when using features that require credits

Is there reporting?

Yes. You can export a .csv report of detailed credit consumption under the Insights tab. This helps you track usage across features, users, and workspaces.

💬 FAQs

How long are credits valid for?

Your credits are calculated annually and reset on your contract anniversary each year. Any credits you haven't used by then will expire, and cannot be exchanged or refunded.

Why can't I see the option to allocate credits by workspace?

Workspace-level credit allocation is only available once your account is set up as a multi-workspace organization. If you have a single-workspace Enterprise account, all credits draw from one shared pool for that workspace. Contact your CSM if you'd like to move to a multi-workspace setup.

Do unused credits roll over each month?

No, if credits are not used in the month they will not roll over into next month

Does the monthly credit limit per user apply to every workspace?

Yes. The monthly credit limit per user applies to every user on the Enterprise plan across all of the plan’s workspaces.

What happens when a user reaches the monthly credit limit per user?

When a user reaches the monthly credit limit your admin set, that user can’t use features that consume credits in any workspace on your plan until the limit resets. The user sees a message that they’ve reached their monthly credit limit.

Can I set a different monthly credit limit for each user?

No. The Usage fairness setting uses one monthly credit limit for the whole plan. It does not support limits for individual users or workspaces.

How do I let a user continue after they reach the monthly credit limit?

To let a user continue before the limit resets, raise the monthly credit limit in Usage fairness. The new limit applies to every user on the plan, not only the user who reached the limit.

Why can't I see Usage fairness in my workspace settings?

If your Enterprise plan has an organization, only organization admins can see and change the Usage fairness setting. Ask an organization admin to open it.
