How do I reset my browser state in Synthesia?

Learn how to use the Synthesia browser clean-up tool to fix common issues, and what to do if the reset does not resolve your problem.

Written by Meg

The Synthesia browser clean-up tool resets stored settings in your browser and can resolve many common issues. If the reset does not fix your problem, this article walks you through additional troubleshooting steps.

Use the Browser Clean-Up Tool

The browser clean-up tool resets Synthesia's stored settings in your browser. It does not affect your Synthesia account, videos, or workspace data.

  1. Close all other Synthesia tabs in your browser.

  2. Select Reset All.

    • You can also reset individual items: LocalStorage, SessionStorage, IndexedDB, Cache, and Service Workers.

  3. Wait for the reset to complete, then reload Synthesia and test your issue again.

✍️ All other Synthesia tabs must be closed before running the reset, or the tool will not complete.

If the Issue Persists After Reset

If the browser clean-up tool does not resolve your issue, work through the following steps in order. Test Synthesia after each step before moving to the next.

Step 1: Clear your browser cache manually

  1. Open your browser settings.

  2. Navigate to Privacy and security or Clear browsing data.

  3. Select Cached images and files and Cookies and other site data.

  4. Choose All time as the time range.

  5. Select Clear data, then reload Synthesia.

πŸ“š For step-by-step cache clearing guides, see How do I clear my browser's cache? .

Step 2: Test in an incognito or private window

  1. Open a new incognito or private window in your browser.

    • Chrome: Ctrl + Shift + N (Windows) or Cmd + Shift + N (Mac)

    • Edge: Ctrl + Shift + N (Windows) or Cmd + Shift + N (Mac)

  2. Go to app.synthesia.io and sign in.

  3. Test your issue again.

πŸ’‘ If your issue does not appear in incognito mode, a browser extension is likely causing the conflict. Proceed to Step 3.

Step 3: Disable browser extensions

  1. Open your browser's extension manager.

  2. Toggle off all extensions.

  3. Reload Synthesia and test your issue.

  4. If the issue is resolved, re-enable extensions one at a time to identify the conflict.

Step 4: Try a different browser

If the issue appears in your usual browser but not in a different one, the problem is specific to your browser installation. Synthesia works on the latest versions of Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge.

πŸ’‘ For a full list of supported browsers, see the Synthesia Requirements documentation.

πŸ’¬ FAQs

Will the reset affect my videos or account?

No. The reset only clears Synthesia's stored settings in your browser. Your account, videos, and workspace data are unaffected.

Why do I need to close all Synthesia tabs first?

Open tabs can write new data to the browser storage during the reset, which prevents the clean-up from completing. Close all Synthesia tabs before running the tool.

What does the tool reset?

The tool resets LocalStorage, SessionStorage, IndexedDB, cached files, and unregistered Service Workers for the Synthesia app in your browser. You can reset all of these at once using Reset All, or select individual items.
