Quick Summary
If you’ve received a moderation prompt on your script, it may be because your content includes language that makes it appear an avatar is claiming to be a real person, expressing personal opinions as that individual, or representing someone in a way that could mislead viewers. This applies to public figures, real employees, and Stock Avatar actors.
The good news is that creating content involving people, personas, and real-world scenarios is still widely supported on Synthesia. In many cases, adjusting the framing or wording is enough to provide permissible content through the platform.
How to Fix This
Review your script with these points in mind:
Avoid using scripts that present an avatar as a real person, public figure, or employee.
Avoid scripting a Stock Avatar to express personal preferences, opinions, or experiences that could be mistaken for the real actor’s own views.
Avoid presenting Stock Avatars as personally experiencing medical conditions, mental health diagnoses, or high risk behaviors.
If you need to represent a real employee or colleague by name, use a Custom Avatar of that person and frame the content clearly as a representation (“This is Judy, our Principal Manager, walking you through today’s topic”).
For educational, historical, or training content involving real individuals, use third-person or clearly representative language to avoid implying the avatar is that person.
Satire, parody, and tribute content involving public figures is supported, but only when using a Custom or Personal Avatar and being sure that content does not mislead viewers into believing the content is genuine or officially endorsed.
Examples
Better Examples for Adherence
“Hi, I’m Judy, the Principal Manager at Bosch. In this video, I’ll walk you through our onboarding process.” (using Custom Avatar of Judy)
“In this scenario, our avatar represents a patient discussing symptoms with a healthcare professional.”
“Many customers find that switching to automated reporting saves them several hours a week.”
“Queen Elizabeth delivered her first major speech in 1940. In this historical recreation, we hear her words as originally spoken.”
“This training module uses an avatar to play the role of a fictional manager to demonstrate difficult conversations.”
Examples That May Trigger Moderation
“Hi, I’m Jennifer Aniston, and I personally love using this skincare routine every morning.”
“I’m Steve Micham, CEO of Capital Markets and Co-founder of Merks, and I’m here to tell you about our new product.” (Stock Avatar, no disclosure)
“I personally struggle with alcoholism, and it affects my performance at work.” (Stock Avatar expressing a medical/risk condition as personal)
“I really think you should sign up — I’ve tried it myself and it completely changed my life.” (Stock Avatar expressing personal endorsement)
“Hi, I’m [Synthesia Employee Name], and I’m reaching out on behalf of the Synthesia team.”
Suggested Rewording
Use the table below as a quick reference for adjusting your script:
Instead of this | Try this |
“Hi, I’m Jennifer Aniston, and I love this product.” | “In this video, an avatar walks you through why customers love [Product Name].” |
“I’m Steve Micham, CEO of Capital Markets.” | "Hi, we have Steve representing Capital Markets today…” |
“I personally struggle with depression every day.” | “In this scenario, our avatar represents someone managing depression in the workplace.” |
“I’ve tried this myself and it really works.” | “Many users report that this approach has made a real difference for them.” |
“I’m [Synthesia Employee] and I’m reaching out from Synthesia.” | “This message is brought to you by the Synthesia team.” |
“Hi, I’m [Historical Figure] and this is my story.” | “In this educational recreation, we explore the story of [Historical Figure].” |
Key Reminder
✍️ Impersonation guidance is here to protect both your audience and the real people your content may reference. It is not meant to be a barrier in creating great videos.
The vast majority of use cases involving people, personas, and real-world scenarios are fully supported with the right framing.
If your script was flagged, try applying one of the rewording patterns above, then regenerate your video. If you’re unsure whether your content is within guidelines, a small shift toward representative or educational language almost always does the trick.
