How do I use an Avatar in Synthesia?

Types of Avatars

Synthesia offers a variety of avatars to suit your needs:

  • Stock Avatars: A diverse collection of pre-built avatars representing different professions and styles. Check out the What is a Stock Avatar? article to learn more.

  • Custom Avatars: Create a personalized avatar from a video recording or a professional studio shoot. Check out the What is a Custom Avatar? article to learn about the different types of custom avatars.


Adding or Changing an Avatar

To add an avatar to your video:

  1. Open your video in the Synthesia editor.

  2. Click the Avatar tab in the top menu.

  3. Choose an avatar from the Stock Avatars or Custom Avatars library.

  4. The selected avatar will appear on the screen β€” click and drag to reposition it as needed.

To change an existing avatar:

  1. Open your video in the Synthesia editor.

  2. Click on the avatar in the canvas to activate the inspector panel.

  3. In the inspector panel, select a new avatar from the library.

  4. A popup will appear at the bottom of the screen, asking if you'd like to replace all instances of the avatar in the video. Click Change All to change all avatars.


Voice and Language Selection

Each avatar speaks with a text-to-speech voice you select:

  • Enter your script in the Script box.

  • Under the Voice dropdown, choose the desired voice and language.

  • You can preview voices before applying them.

Synthesia supports 130+ languages and voices.
