What do I do if my video is rejected?

Updated today

At Synthesia, all content is reviewed before generation. If your video is rejected, you’ll receive a real-time notification identifying which policy was violated. We understand this can be concerning.

Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you understand what happened and how to move forward.

Review our Content Moderation Policies

We strongly recommend reviewing our Content Moderation Policies before submitting content. These guidelines explain how content is reviewed and outline what’s permitted on our platform.

Common reasons content may be flagged:

  • Understanding the permissions and limitations of Personal and Stock Avatars is crucial. Misuse, such as using an avatar outside its intended context can result in content restrictions.

  • Topics involving legal, ethical, or high-risk subjects require enhanced moderation features. These tools are included in all paid plans to help ensure content is safe, compliant, and aligned with our platform standards.

Review the Rejection Notice

When a video is rejected, you'll receive a brief explanation by email outlining the reason it didn’t meet our moderation guidelines. We recommend reviewing the rejection notice alongside our Content Moderation Policies to understand the specific policy violation. Make any necessary adjustments before resubmitting your content.

Review our Acceptable Use Policy

Familiarizing yourself with and acknowledging our Acceptable Use Policy helps prevent unintentional violations that could lead to content removal or account suspension.

To ensure the platform remains safe and respectful for all, please use it responsibly by:

  • Following all applicable laws and regulations, respecting others' privacy, and refraining from impersonation or sharing harmful content.

  • Avoiding content that is offensive, inappropriate, or unsafe, especially when it involves sensitive topics or references to protected characteristics.

Access your Rejected Video for Revisions

Once your video has been rejected, you can still access and edit it directly in your Synthesia account. We recommend duplicating the rejected video, making the necessary changes based on the rejection notice and our Content Moderation Policies, and then resubmitting the revised version for review.

Prevent Future Rejections

To minimize the chances of future content rejections, we recommend following these Synthesia best practices:

  • Moderation policies may be updated from time to time. Regularly reviewing our Content Moderation Policies ensures you remain informed about what is and isn’t allowed on the platform.

  • Our in-platform knowledge base offers helpful information and examples. Reviewing these resources before submitting content can significantly reduce the likelihood of rejection.

Appeal a Moderation Decision

If you believe your video was rejected in error, you can submit an appeal. We’re happy to review rejections where a clear case is made for reconsideration.
