Synthesia automatically creates a version each time you generate a video. This versioning system allows you to track changes, revert to previous versions, and maintain consistency across edits.
How are Versions Created?
Generating a Video Creates a Version
When you generate a video for the first time, Synthesia saves it as version.
This version captures the exact state of your video, including all elements, animations, and script details.
Not sure how to generate your video? See the How do I generate my video in Synthesia? article.
Editing and Re-Generating Creates a New Version
If you make changes to the video (e.g., modifying the script, adjusting animations, or changing the avatar) and generate it again, a new version is created.
When editing a video with multiple versions, you will always work on the most recent draft version, even if it has not been generated yet.
Reverting to an Older Version
If you need to edit an older version, you can either duplicate it or restore it from the video Version History.
Check out the Restoring & Duplicating Documentation to learn more.
Publishing, Sharing, and Embedding Videos with Multiple Versions:
How do Published Versions Work?
If your video has multiple versions, only the published version will be accessible via:
Share page
Embed link
SCORM export
Older versions remain in the Version History but are not visible externally.
To update a published video with a new version:
If you want to update a previously published video with a new version, simply navigate to your desired version and select Publish.
The share page, embed links, and SCORM exports will automatically update to reflect the latest published version—no need to replace links manually.
