When working with video assets inside your Synthesia scenes — such as stock clips, uploaded footage, or screen recordings — you may need to adjust their timing so they fit perfectly with your narration and scene length. In Synthesia, you can trim, loop, or stretch video clips directly within a scene to achieve the ideal pacing and flow.
This guide walks you through how to edit the timing of video assets within a scene.
How Do I Trim a Video in a Scene?
Trimming lets you remove unwanted sections of a video asset inside a scene, or split it into smaller parts for more precise control.
To Trim Your Video Asset:
Select the video asset on the canvas.
Click Trim from the right-hand side menu.
A timeline will appear, allowing you to drag the handles on either side to trim the beginning or end of the clip.
To split the clip into sections, use the Split at time option.
Once your adjustments are complete, click Done — your trimmed clip will be saved and applied to your scene.
💡 Tip: Trimmed footage isn’t permanently deleted. You can drag the timeline handles outward at any time to restore any removed portions.
How Do I Loop or Stretch a Video Asset?
If your video clip doesn’t match the duration of your scene or script, you can loop or stretch it to create a seamless fit.
To Loop or Stretch Your Video Asset:
Select the video asset on the canvas.
On the right-hand Video panel, choose one of the playback options:
Play Once: The video plays through a single time.
Stretch: Extends or shortens the clip’s duration to align with the scene length.
Loop/Cut: Repeats the video until the scene ends, or cuts it at the perfect stopping point.
Once you select an option, your clip will automatically update within the scene.
💡 Tip: You can combine trimming with looping or stretching — for example, trim your clip to the best segment first, then stretch or loop it to fit your scene timing.
