What is a template?
A template is a pre-designed video structure that you can reuse to create multiple videos with a consistent layout and style.
There are several ways to use a template:
Start from scratch
Convert an existing video into a template
Create a Template from scratch
To create a new template from scratch:
Navigate to the Library > Template page of Synthesia.
Select the Create a New Template button.
On the video edit page, create your different scene layouts to begin designing your template.
You can also set a Brand Kit for your template, by selecting it from the top left menu in the canvas.
Once done, select Publish Template in the upper right corner of the page.
Enter your template Title and Description.
Select Publish template to validate.
Convert a video into a Template
Convert an existing video into a template at any time:
Open a generated video you want to convert into a template.
Select the three dots at the top right corner of your screen.
Select Save as a template.
Make any necessary adjustments to your video scene layouts.
Once done, select the Publish Template button.
Enter your template Title and Description.
Select Publish template to validate.
💡 Want to keep or replace specific media in your template, when using AI Assistant?
Select the media item you wish to affect, select the three-dot menu in the inspector, and choose:
Auto – Let AI decide
Always – Always replace with stock or source content
Never – Keep this media as is

I saved a video as a template by mistake. How do I turn it back into a video?
Go to Library, then Templates. Find the template, select the three-dot menu on it, then select Create video. This starts a new, editable video from that template that you can generate normally.
