How do I use the Synthesia MCP?

Learn how to use the Synthesia MCP in ChatGPT and Claude to create, generate, and find Synthesia videos without leaving your chat.

Overview

The Synthesia MCP connects Synthesia to your AI tool, so you can create and manage Synthesia videos from the chat where you already work. You no longer need to copy a script from your AI tool and paste the script into Synthesia.

MCP stands for Model Context Protocol, a standard way for AI tools to connect to other apps.

Supported AI Tools

Synthesia tests and supports the Synthesia MCP with the AI tools below. To connect, check out the article for your tool.

Other MCP-compatible tools may connect with the server URL, but Synthesia doesn’t officially support them.

What You Can Do With the Synthesia MCP

The Synthesia MCP lets you:

  • Create videos from a prompt, a script, or content from your connected tools.

  • Edit Syren videos by describing the changes you want.

  • Search your existing video library and view video details.

You can create two types of video:

  • Studio video: a classic Synthesia video. Your AI tool creates a draft from your prompt or script, and you can finish the draft in the Synthesia editor.

  • Syren video: a video that Syren, the Synthesia AI video agent, creates and edits through chat. You can’t open Syren videos in the Synthesia editor.

Generating a Studio video and creating a Syren video use credits, the same way they do in Synthesia. Creating a Studio video draft doesn’t use credits.

✍️ The Synthesia MCP only works in the workspace you sign in to.
Your AI tool can only create videos in that workspace, and search only shows videos you already have access to.

Create a Video With the Synthesia MCP

To create a video, start a new chat in your AI tool, turn on Synthesia, and describe the video you want.

  1. Start a new chat in your AI tool, and make sure Synthesia is turned on.

  2. Describe the video you want, or paste the exact script you want to use.

    • To create a Syren video, include “use Syren” in your prompt. For example: “Turn this Notion page into a 60-second explainer with Syren.”

    • If your prompt doesn’t include “use Syren”, your AI tool may create a Studio video draft instead.

  3. Follow the prompts in the chat.

    • For a Studio video, choose your Synthesia workspace and a Style or template in the setup widget, review the draft, and then ask your AI tool to generate the video.

    • For a Syren video, watch the video in the Syren player in the chat.

💡 Want to turn a document or conversation into a video? Syren can use content from your other connected tools, such as Slack threads, Notion pages, and Drive docs, so you don’t need to copy and paste the content.

Edit and Export a Syren Video

To edit a Syren video, describe the change you want in the same chat. Your AI tool keeps the context of your earlier requests, so you can keep refining the video until you’re happy with the result. Each change is saved as a new version, so you can ask your AI tool to undo a change or restore an earlier version.

  1. In the chat, describe the change you want to make to the video.

  2. Review the updated video in the Syren player.

  3. Repeat steps 1 and 2 until you’re happy with the video.

  4. Ask to export the full-quality video file.

✍️ You can’t edit a Studio video draft from your AI tool after the draft is created.

Find Your Existing Videos

To find a video, ask your AI tool to search your Synthesia video library, such as “Find my onboarding videos in Synthesia.” Search is keyword-based, so include words from the video title or description.

Does using the Synthesia MCP use credits?

The Synthesia MCP uses credits the same way as the Synthesia editor. Draft creation is free. Video generation uses your plan’s credits based on the duration of the video. Enterprise plans have unlimited video generation. Syren videos consume credits. Pricing may change before general availability.

Does the Synthesia MCP cost extra on an Enterprise plan?

The Synthesia MCP has no extra cost during the public beta.

Can I edit my video using the Synthesia MCP?

You can edit a Syren video by describing the change you want in the chat. You can’t edit a Studio video draft. To edit a video draft or a generated video, open the video in the Synthesia editor.

Why can’t I find Synthesia in the Claude connector directory?

Synthesia is not listed in the Claude connector directory. To use Synthesia in Claude, add a custom connector with the server URL https://mcp.synthesia.io/mcp.

Does the Synthesia MCP work with Microsoft Copilot?

The Synthesia MCP doesn’t support Microsoft Copilot.

Why did Claude create a video draft instead of a Syren video?

Claude may create a video draft when your prompt doesn’t ask for Syren. To create a Syren video, include “use Syren” in your prompt.

Can I upload my logo or images to Syren via MCP?

You can’t upload files, such as logos, images, videos, or PDFs, to Syren from Claude yet. To upload files to a video, use Syren in Synthesia.
