Quick Summary
If you've received a moderation prompt on your script, it may be because your content appears to be discussing topics restricted under our Child Safety policies. Synthesia supports the creation of educational and informational content discussing child safeguarding issues. All users can use our Stock Avatars to create content discussing child safety at a surface level - for example, a training video explaining the need for child safeguarding policies in an organisation.
However, due to the risks and sensitivities around child safety issues, our policies place some restrictions on what child safety content can be created with Stock Avatars. This includes detailed instructional content discussing topics such as child abuse, child grooming, child trafficking and child sexual abuse material.
How to Fix This
If you want to use a Stock Avatar, you can review your script to:
Avoid graphic or detailed depictions of child safety harms
Remove specific guidance on how to identify suspicious behavior, risks and signs of child abuse
Remove guidance on how to report child safety concerns to specific child protection authorities and child safeguarding organisations
Reframe personal (first-person) victim testimonials of experiencing child abuse and child trafficking, by switching to third-person narration
Remove information about specific child safeguarding organisations and legal authorities
If it isn't possible to make these changes (for example, if you're creating content training frontline child safety support workers), you may be able to create your content if you switch to a Personal/Studio/Synthetic Avatar. Personal/Studio/Synthetic Avatars offer greater freedom to discuss restricted topics than Stock Avatars. If you are creating a range of child safety content, you may benefit from using a Personal/Studio/Synthetic Avatar.
All content should avoid graphic depictions and content that encourages harm to children.

Examples
Examples Allowed with a Stock Avatar
As an organisation working with vulnerable children, it is important that you understand our internal child safeguarding and child safety reporting policies.
If you identify any child safeguarding concerns, you should immediately notify your supervisor.
Examples Allowed with a Custom Avatar
If the child demonstrates these behaviours, it is a sign that they are experiencing abuse. This must be documented and reported to the Police.
Child grooming is when an abuser first builds a relationship and trust with a child or young person so that they can abuse them later.
If you observe unexplained injuries, bruises, or burns with inconsistent explanations, this is often a sign of child abuse.
If you suspect child abuse, you can report incidents to the following hotline: xxx-xxx-xxxx
Having survived abuse when I was a child, I am glad to be able to support this cause which is immensely important to me.
Suggested Rewording
Some common edits you can make to fit our content guidelines for Stock Avatars:
Instead of this | Try this | Content would be approved with |
"Report any incidents to the child safety hotline at xxx-xxx-xxxx" | "Report any incidents to your local child protection services" | All avatar types |
"As a survivor of child abuse, I know that your support can go a long way" | "For victims of child abuse, your support can go a long way" | All avatar types |
"Report any unexplained bruises or burns, these may indicate child abuse" | "Report any signs of child abuse or safety concerns" | All avatar types |
Key Reminder
✍️ Depending on your content, there may be more than one compliant path. Some changes will make your script suitable for stock Avatars, while others may still require a Personal/Studio/Synthetic Avatar, enterprise workspace or, in some cases, may not be supported on the platform.
If your script was flagged, the guidance above should help you understand both how to edit your content and what type of account or avatar is needed to create it successfully.
