How do I make two avatars dialogue together in a scene?

Create lifelike conversations with Synthesia’s Dialogue feature. Add up to 20 avatars with unique voices—ideal for interviews, training, and explainer videos.

Written by Meg Farley

The Dialogue feature allows you to have two or more avatars in a scene (up to 20), allowing you to simulate real-life conversations and interactions.

Add a Second Avatar to a Scene

  1. Select the Avatar button to add your first avatar.

  2. Enter a sentence in your script for your avatar.

  3. Select your first avatar language and voice.

  4. Add additional avatars to the scene through the Avatar menu.

    • Alternatively, in the script box, select the first avatar, then select New speaker to add another avatar.

  5. Enter a sentence in your script for the second avatar.

  6. Select your second avatar language and voice.

💡 Want an avatar to speak without appearing on screen? In the script box, select them as the speaker, then select the hide option next to their voice, shown as an eye icon. Their voice will play in the background — perfect for off-screen narration or background conversations.

Create Dialogue Scenes with Angled Avatars

Angled avatars let you show your avatar from different camera angles — front, angled left, or angled right — so you can create dialogue scenes where two avatars appear to face each other.

  1. Add two avatar scenes to your video project.

  2. In the inspector panel, select an avatar that supports angled views. Avatars with angled views display a camera icon that indicates angled-view support.

  3. Choose a camera angle for the avatar:

    • Front

    • Angled left (avatar faces screen right)

    • Angled right (avatar faces screen left)

  4. Mix and match angles between avatars in alternating scenes to create a back-and-forth conversation effect.
