Adding music to your content can make a world of difference by setting the tone or mood of the video, increasing viewer engagement and attention, reinforcing key ideas or concepts through repetition, and making the video more memorable and easier to recall. In this article, you will learn how to add music, upload your own music, apply it to all scenes, change the music volume, and disable it for scenes where it is not required.

How to Add Music

To begin, access the toolbar on the right-hand side and turn on the Music toggle.

You will be presented with the option to select a music file from your own library if you have previously uploaded content to Synthesia, or select a music file from our Shutterstock library as seen below.

To add music from the available library, click on Shutterstock to see all available content.

If you would like to locate a specific soundtrack, you can also use the search bar. In this example, we have utilised the search bar to find all music files that contain the word Story.

A useful feature is the ability to play the music file by selecting the Play button before adding the soundtrack to your scene.

Once you have listened to your soundtrack and are satisfied with your selection, click on Add.

After adding it, you will be able to see the selected sound track on the right-hand side menu, as shown below.

How to Upload Music to Synthesia

To upload your own music, go to the right-hand side and turn on the Music toggle.

To add a soundtrack, select the "upload music" button. This will take you to your device files, where you can select the desired track.

Supported formats include mp3, .wav, .ogg, .aac, .flac.

Once you select your desired track, it will be added to your music library. A pop-up on the bottom right-hand corner of your screen will also confirm that your asset has been successfully uploaded.

To add your uploaded music file to your scenes, select the Add button. This will add your music file to your current scene.

In addition by utilising the three dots on the right-hand side of your uploaded music, you can also choose to:

  • Copy the ID

  • Rename the File

  • Download the File

  • Delete the File

Another way to access your music library files in Synthesia is by navigating to the Library section on the left-hand side menu.

Select the music folder to view all uploaded sound files and the option to upload additional ones, as shown below.

How to Apply Music to All Scenes

After selecting your preferred soundtrack, a pop-up will appear at the bottom of your screen as shown below.

If you have already created more than one scene, click the Change All button to apply the music file to all of your scenes.

How to Change Music Volume

Once you have selected your preferred soundtrack, the music volume will be set to 18% by default.

To change the music volume, you can either move the volume toggle left or right depending on whether you would like to increase or decrease the volume, or you can manually change the percentage number within the box as shown below.

You can apply this change to all scenes by using the pop-up menu shown below, or apply the changes manually to each scene depending on your specific scene requirements.

If you want to turn off the music in a particular scene, simply toggle the music off. You will then be presented with an option to remove the music from all scenes. If you only want to apply the change to a single scene, you can ignore this pop-up. Alternatively, you can select Remove all.
