What Is an Interactive Clone?
An interactive clone is a real-time, interactive avatar of you. Your interactive clone looks like you, speaks in your cloned voice, and holds a live conversation with anyone you share it with.
To create your interactive clone, you chat with a virtual interviewer instead of reading from a teleprompter. A natural conversation gives you a more natural clone. You can create a clone in a few minutes, and you don’t need a plan to start. If you don’t have an account, you enter some details and Synthesia puts you on a freemium plan.
Your interactive clone lives in Studio.
Before You Start
Your recording device affects whether cloning works. Use a laptop or desktop computer for the best results. Some phones record at a very low frame rate and can’t pass the recording checks.
Synthesia checks each recording for liveness, age, celebrities, multiple faces, and voice match. If a check rejects your recording, you need to record again.
Create Your Interactive Clone
To create your interactive clone:
Open the interactive clone page in Studio.
If you’re signed in, go to app.synthesia.io/#/clone
If you’re not signed in, go to app.synthesia.io/#/try/clone
Choose a vibe for your clone:
AI clone
Hype clone
Roast clone.
Chat with the virtual interviewer, and answer in your own words.
Position your face inside the scanning ring.
Give your consent by saying the consent phrase out loud and entering the passcode.
If you don’t have a Synthesia account, enter your details when prompted. Synthesia creates your account on a freemium plan, and your clone moves into it.
Wait for your clone to generate. Most clones are ready in about 2–3 minutes.
Talk to Your Interactive Clone
Once your clone is ready, you can talk to it in real time. You can interrupt your clone mid-sentence.
✍️ Talking to your interactive clone uses credits. Each minute of conversation uses 20 credits. Each conversation lasts up to 2 minutes, so a full conversation uses 40 credits. Conversations are metered by seconds.
Share Your Interactive Clone
You share your interactive clone with a link. Synthesia emails you the link when your clone is ready.
To share your interactive clone:
Open the email from Synthesia.
Copy the link to your clone.
Send the link to the people you want to talk to your clone.
People can open your link in a browser on any device without signing in. At peak traffic, visitors may wait in a queue before their conversation starts.
✍️ Conversations through your shared link use your credits. When someone talks to your clone through your link, the conversation uses 20 credits per minute from your account. Share your link only with people you want to use your credits.
Use Your Interactive Clone in Synthesia
Your interactive clone also becomes part of your Synthesia account. After your clone is ready, it appears in your avatar gallery, in your voice list, and as an Interactive Avatar. You can pick your clone as the avatar and voice when you build an Interactive Avatar widget. Widget limits follow your plan.
Troubleshooting
If your interactive clone doesn’t work as expected, these are the most common causes:
Someone else appears on camera. Make sure only you appear on camera, including in the background. Recording checks reject recordings with more than one face.
Your face isn’t inside the scanning ring. Position your face inside the scanning ring, and then record again.
Cloning failed on your phone. Try again on a laptop or desktop computer. Low-end phones are behind almost all cloning failures.
Your recording was rejected. Record again. Recording checks reject about 10% of attempts.
Moderation blocked your clone. Moderation can block a clone when it flags your name as impersonation. If this happens, contact support so the moderation team can review your clone.
Your clone has less personality than expected. If moderation flags your clone’s speaking style, Synthesia publishes your clone without that speaking style.
Your clone failed to generate. Your workspace needs avatar balance to create a clone.
Your clone can’t go live. Each clone uses two Interactive Avatar configurations, and a workspace holds up to 100. If your workspace is full, make room before your clone goes live.
