You can customize avatar backgrounds — called Spaces — in Synthesia using text prompts. This lets you place avatars in environments that better match your message and audience.

📚 You can also customize outfits and create Avatar B-roll to bring your videos to life:

Which Avatars does this work for?

Background customization is available for:

  • A specific set of six expressive synthetic stock avatars

  • Personal avatars created from a photo

If you’re using a personal avatar, see How do I create personal avatars from photo? to learn more about setup and requirements.

Customize backgrounds (Spaces)

  1. In the video editor, add a customizable Avatar to your video and click Spaces in the inspector panel.

  2. Click Create space in the bottom-left of the picker.

  3. Enter a text prompt describing the space, or press Tab to auto-generate a prompt based on your video script.

    • Example: “modern office with large windows”

  4. (Optional) Add branding:

    • Use the logo picker to select a logo from your Brand Kit or Library, or upload a new one.

    • Include brand colors using hex codes (for example, #0057B7) and describe how you want them applied.

  5. Click the blue arrow. It will take a few minutes to create your Space.

  6. When ready, apply the Space to your video or add it to your favorites for future use.

✍️ Once you’ve created custom Spaces and avatar outfits, you can mix and match them — using any outfit with any background.
