Avatar request types

When you send a personal avatar request, you choose between two avatar types:

  • Avatar from Photo— a photo-based personal avatar. The recipient takes or uploads a single photo and records a short voice sample. This is the faster option and does not require a full video recording.

  • Avatar from Video (Legacy) — a video-based personal avatar. The recipient records a short video clip. This option uses the original personal avatar creation flow.

Creating a Personal Avatar request

  1. Go to the Avatars page and select Create avatar.

  2. Select Create Your Personal Avatar, then select Request from colleague.

  3. Choose your avatar type:

    • Select Avatar from Photo to send a photo-based request.

    • Select Avatar from Video (Legacy) to send a video-based request.

  4. Enter the recipient's name, email address, and an optional request message.

  5. Select Submit to send the request by email.

    • You can also copy the invite URL to share it directly.

✍️ The recipient does not need a Synthesia account to complete the request. The invite link opens an isolated page outside of Synthesia Studio.

What the recipient needs to do

Once the recipient opens the invite link, they follow a short creation flow to submit their avatar.

💡 Progress is not saved during the avatar creation flow. Make sure the recipient has enough time to complete it in one session before they start.

What happens after submission

Once the request is submitted, both the requester and the recipient receive email notifications when avatar generation starts and when the avatar is ready to use. The completed avatar is owned by the requester.

💬 FAQs

How long are personal avatar request URLs valid?

Request URLs expire 7 days after they are first created. If the link expires before the recipient completes the flow, you will need to send a new request.

Who can create personal avatar requests?

Any member of a workspace where the feature is enabled can send a personal avatar request.

Can admins disable personal avatar requests?

Yes. Admins can turn off personal avatar requests using the feature toggle in the workspace or organization general settings. This toggle controls both Avatar from Photo and Avatar from Video (Legacy) avatar request types.

Will I be notified when my avatar is ready?

Yes. Both the requester and the recipient receive email confirmations when the recording is complete and when the avatar has been created.

Who owns the avatar once it’s created?

The avatar is owned by the requester. It is debited against the requester's workspace's personal avatar balance at the time of submission.

Can the same invite link be used more than once?

No. Each invite link is single-use. Once a submission is completed, the link becomes invalid.
