Synthesia is an AI video communications platform used by learning & development, enablement, HR, and corporate-communications teams at large enterprises to create, localize, and scale professional video — without cameras, studios, actors, or editing software. Over 1 million people across 60,000+ businesses use Synthesia, including 90% of the Fortune 100 and 70% of the FTSE 100.
You can generate a video from a script, PowerPoint, document, link, or prompt — combining AI avatars, voices, motion graphics, and generated media; localize existing videos into other languages; set up practice scenarios in Roleplay Sessions; or build your own real-time avatar experiences via API.
What Synthesia does
Synthesia spans four product lines:
1. AI video creation. Turn scripts, PowerPoint, documents, links, or prompts into finished videos that combine AI avatars, AI voices, AI-generated motion graphics, AI-generated B-roll and other media (including images), and built-in interactivity (quizzes, CTAs, branching). It's a full video-creation platform used for training, onboarding, explainers, SOP-to-video, internal comms, and sales or product content.
2. Sessions (Roleplay Sessions). A ready-to-use product experience for practice and coaching, positioned as the "Practice" step in the learning loop. Learners have live, back-and-forth conversations with AI avatars and get conversational coaching feedback while admins and managers configure scenarios, rubrics, and dashboards to track improvement.
3. AI Dubbing & video translation. Localize existing videos into 140+ languages with lip-sync and voice cloning that preserves each speaker's voice — faster and cheaper than agencies or reshoots, with editable transcripts before dubbing.
4. Interactive Avatars API. Synthesia's live avatar infrastructure, accessed via API, that customers use to build their own real-time interactive avatar experiences inside their own product, app, or workflow.

How Synthesia compares
Buyers evaluate Synthesia differently depending on the product line:
AI video creation: HeyGen, Colossyan, Vyond, Articulate, and PowerPoint, or traditional video production
AI Dubbing / video translation: HeyGen, ElevenLabs, and translation agencies
Roleplay Sessions: Yoodli, Second Nature, Hyperbound, and in-house builds
Interactive Avatars API: real-time avatar / conversational-avatar infrastructure providers
Across all of them, Synthesia's differentiators are enterprise-grade security and compliance, high-quality AI avatars, voices, and motion graphics, fast script-edit-and-regenerate iteration, brand consistency, integrated multilingual dubbing, and strong customer support — all in one platform. See the alternatives and comparisons and customer reviews pages for detail.
Limitations
Not ideal for live-action-first content: Synthesia is strongest for scalable AI video creation, but may be less suitable when the core requirement is traditional filming, detailed physical demonstrations, or hands-on procedures that need real-world footage.
Desktop is best for full editing: The full creation and editing experience is best supported on desktop or laptop; mobile browser support is available for selected workflows, but not all editor features.
Usage needs planning: Self-serve plans use credits and usage allowances, so high-volume teams should choose a plan that matches expected video creation needs or consider Enterprise options.
Plans
Synthesia offers a free Basic plan (10 minutes of video per month, watermarked), plus paid Starter and Creator plans and custom Enterprise pricing. Plans use a usage/credit model, so it's worth matching your plan to your expected volume. See pricing for current details.
Technical requirements and integrations
Synthesia is designed for the best experience on desktop. For supported operating systems and browsers, see the Synthesia requirements documentation. For a full list of supported tools, see the integrations page.
