Can I use the same Avatar voice across multiple languages in one scene?

Updated over a week ago

Yes, you can use the same avatar to speak in multiple languages within a single scene — but there are a few important limitations and steps to follow.

Things to Keep in Mind

  • Not all voices are available in all languages or dialects.
For example, a voice like Ada/Helena – Cheerful may be available in Spanish (Mexico) but not in Spanish (Spain) or Spanish (United States).

  • You can’t switch voices mid-sentence.
Language changes must happen between lines of text.

How to Add Multiple Languages in One Scene

  1. Start a new line for each language

    • Press Return/Enter to create a new line.

    • Paste or type the text in the second language.

  2. Check if the voice updates automatically

    • Synthesia will often auto-detect the language and switch to the appropriate voice if available.

  3. If the voice doesn’t update automatically:

    • Click on the speaker pill for the line that didn’t update.

    • On the right side of the speaker pill, click the voice selection dropdown.

    • At the top, click Back to all languages.

    • Search for the language of your text.

    • Select a voice that matches the language.

      • If the same voice isn’t available in that dialect, try another dialect.
