You can enhance your Synthesia videos with images, videos, and GIFs — either by uploading your own files or selecting from built-in stock libraries. This guide walks you through how to upload, add, manage, and troubleshoot media in your projects.
Add Media to Your Video
There are two main ways to add media to a scene in Synthesia: upload your own or choose from built-in libraries.
To add media to a scene:
Open your video project.
Click Media at the top of the canvas.
Choose from:
Upload media to add your own image or video file.
Stock libraries to browse and select media.
Once selected, your media will appear on the canvas. You can move, resize, and position it to fit your scene layout.

Images:
.jpeg
,.png
,.svg
(max 300MB)Videos:
.mp4
,.webm
(max 250MB)
Set a Media Background
You can use any image or video as a background for your scene.
To set a background:
Go to the right-side toolbar.
Toggle on Background media.
Choose a:
Solid color background
Stock image or video
Uploaded media file
The selected background will automatically update on your canvas.
Manage Your Uploaded Media
To upload media to your Media Library:
Navigate to the Library tab under Assets in the left hand menu.
Go to the Media Library.
Click Upload media.
📢 Media Library asset are available to all users within the same workspace.
To manage media assets:
Hover over any uploaded media in the library.
Click the 3-dot menu to:
Rename
Download
Delete
Using Stock Media
Synthesia provides access to stock images and videos via integrated libraries.
Free plan users may see watermarked previews.
Paid plans have access to Getty stock media in full resolution, without watermarks.
To view creator info for stock media:
Hover over the asset to see the creator's name, or
Click the 3-dot menu, select Copy id, then search on the stock provider’s site for full details.
Troubleshoot Common Media Issues
Blurry images?
First, check that the Blur setting is set to 0% in the right-hand menu.
If blur is set to zero and the image still looks blurry, don’t worry — some images may appear slightly blurred in draft mode, but they will render in full quality in the final generated video.
Blank or missing images?
This could be a browser caching issue. Try:
Clearing your browser cache
Restarting your browser
Reloading the Synthesia platform
